De term cinematic lighting kom je vaak tegen in geschreven prompts voor o.a. Midjourney, DALL·E, ChatGPT en andere generatieve AI-tools. Maar wat doet het precies? Bekijk heel veel voorbeelden!
Wat betekent cinematic lighting?
Cinematic lighting verwijst naar het type belichting dat je vaak ziet in films. Het is sfeervol, dramatisch en vaak gebaseerd op technieken als backlight, rim light, zachte schaduwen en diep contrast. In AI-prompts zorgt het voor beelden die direct ‘filmisch’ aanvoelen: rijk in licht-donkerverhoudingen, met een gevoel van diepte en sfeer.
Wat doet het in een prompt?
Als je alleen al cinematic lighting toevoegt aan een eenvoudige prompt, zie je vaak:
- sterkere schaduwen en highlights,
- meer dieptewerking in de compositie,
- gebruik van kleurverlopen en lensachtige effecten,
- een meer ‘geënsceneerde’ sfeer, alsof er een camerateam bij was.
Voorbeeld mét en zonder de token Cinematic Lightning
Ik heb een prompt geschreven voor dit voorbeeld. Deze heb ik Midjourney twee keer uitgevoerd. De eerste keer met cinematic lightning, de tweede keer zonder. Daarna heb ik het nog kort bewerkt via diverse AI tools om het geheel realistisch te maken, zonder de belichting te beïnvloeden. Hieronder zie je het resultaat. Je kan zelf goed zien welke versie meer filmisch is!
Waar kun je het goed voor gebruiken?
Deze token werkt vooral goed bij:
- Portretten: je krijgt karakter en drama.
- Stadsgezichten: avondlicht of zonsondergang wordt intenser.
- Actiescènes of sci-fi: versterkt beweging, lichtstralen, rook.
- Bepaalde scènes: objecten zoals auto’s, stoelen of gebouwen krijgen diepte en schaduw.

Wat als je cinematic lighting combineert met andere tokens?
De kracht van cinematic lighting zit vaak in de combinatie. Door het te gebruiken met andere woorden kun je de stijl, sfeer of focus nog verder aanscherpen. Hieronder zie je voorbeelden van veelgebruikte combinaties.

Conclusie
Cinematic lighting is een van de krachtigste en meest dankbare tokens in beeldgeneratie. Het maakt je beeld niet alleen mooier, maar geeft ook meteen een stijlgevoel mee dat aansluit bij films, trailers en verhalen. Mijn tip: voeg het woord toe wanneer je beeld “te digitaal” of “te plat” aanvoelt!
